Star Trek Online is a free-to-play MMORPG set in the Star Trek universe, allowing players to create their own captain and explore a large galaxy filled with missions, alien civilizations, space battles and ground combat. Players can command customizable starships, participate in away missions and interact with many familiar elements from the franchise while developing their characters and crews. Space combat and ground encounters provide two distinct styles of gameplay, while the extensive customization gives players considerable freedom over their ship and equipment. The game has continued to expand with new stories and content inspired by different eras of Star Trek. Star Trek Online is therefore less about simply watching the famous universe and more about asking the slightly dangerous question: 'What if I were the captain?'
