Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw isn’t exactly known for sunshine and rainbows, and 1213 proves it. This unsettling horror-adventure feels like someone crammed Silent Hill into a ZX Spectrum, then added enough paranoia to fuel a lifetime of therapy. You awaken in a sterile lab with no memory of how you got there, only to discover that sterile labs are rarely good news. The gameplay is simple side-scrolling exploration, but the oppressive atmosphere, disturbing text logs, and eerie silence make it downright suffocating. 1213 may not have flashy graphics, but its ability to crawl under your skin is second to none. Play it with the lights off—if you dare.
