Liberated games
Play free and free-to-play liberated games, no longer supported, officially freed to the public from the developer
Liberated games are (once) commercial video games re-released by their copyright holders with a freeware license. Liberated games are usually old titles, dating back to the 90s or even the 80s, part of the retro gaming phenomenon that recently surfaced at the public attention.
The ‘90s ended with virtually every leading small software house being taken over by bigger companies. A diversified market changed into a market populated only by a small number of big leading distributors. As a result, the vanished companies left their creations behind - what today we call ‘abandonware’.
Luckily, the rights of a small number of old games were kept by their respective developers who, over the years, decided with enlightened views to clear them of any copyright restraint (hence the term ‘liberate’).
